Mixing two genres can lead to interesting results. FuturLab has recently released a pre-alpha gameplay trailer of their latest title, Velocity 2X, and while it’s still in an early development stage, it shows how shoot ‘em-ups and puzzle-platforming can be mixed together for an interesting adventure.
The game serves as a sequel to Velocity Ultra, which itself was a PlayStation Vita overhaul of the PlayStation Minis title Velocity. The footage of Velocity 2X shows some of the available tools and weapons that protagonist Kai Tana will have at her disposal. Even bosses will be fought in a dual-genre setup of top down shooting and platforming.
While the footage seems farther than just ‘pre-alpha’, FuturLab is claiming that this is nowhere near what they are aiming for visually, saying that the game will require much more polish with regards to visual and sound effects, animations and artwork.
Velocity 2X is set to come out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. No release date has been announced as of yet.
