The three-disc compilation album covers every facet of the Hiroki Kikuta-composed classic SNES action RPG Secret of Mana. The album features performances from an overwhelming number of videogame music cover artists, including Stemage of Metroid Metal, Amanda Lepre of Descendants of Erdrick/Those Who Fight, Super Guitar Bros. and Cory Johnson (who some may know for his involvement in World 1-2: Encore).
The album features a very diverse amount of material, with the first disc being dedicated heavier, metal-infused tunes, the second serving as the album’s atmospheric and sentimental soundscape, and the third dubbed by the album’s creators as the “party” CD. Roll out the IPAs.
While the album is indeed free digitally, those who prefer physical copies can donate $15 to have one shipped out, complete with some impressive fan art.
Arecibo Radio invited game music fans to join them for a “Full Listening Party” livestream of the album this past Saturday, giving them the opportunity to chat with the various musicians who contributed to the project.
I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that this is one incredibly solid fan collaboration. And if you’re a Mana fan, then there’s no ifs, ands or buts: download it.
