Sawfly Studio formed from the ashes of Sony Liverpool

Sawfly Studio

As it often happens in the videogame industry, when one videogame developer closes its doors, the best of the team get together to create a new company.

Sony Liverpool, creator of the Wipeout series, closed their doors last year. And from that closure, Sawfly Studio was created by four of the most experienced developers.

With 50 years of combined senior development experience between them, it seems like Sawfly Studio is set on bringing high quality games. Looking through Sony Liverpool’s backlog, it seems like there’s a high chance we’ll get fast paced racing games from them.

Mike Humphrey, one of the four designers for Sawfly Studio, detailed their current plan they have, along with where they want to go in the future.

“Our first title will be out on smart phones, tablets and even the odd handheld console or two. We can’t be too specific just yet, but the game announcement should happen quite soon. All that being said, we’re really just going to concentrate on great game experiences, as we don’t want to pigeonhole ourselves as only mobile developers for example.”

Sawfly Studio is currently doing contract work while they pitch their first IP. Their first game will be published by Ripstone, publisher of indie titles such as Pure Chess and Big Sky Infinity.

Keep an eye out on Sawfly Studio as they begin their new journey.
