THQ’s downfall may still be fresh in our minds, but several of its franchises, including Saints Row and Metro, are being well taken care of by other companies. Koch Media, for instance, may have something in mind with those two particular franchises.
Deep Silver, which is owned by Koch Media, purchased the Saints Row and Metro franchises from THQ in an auction. Koch Media could easily make film adaptations of either of the series. With investments in film production and distribution in Europe, Koch Media Chief Executive Officer Klemens Kundratitz told GamesBeat that they are exploring the possibilities of making film adaptations of their newly-acquired properties:
“[Those movies are] not out of the question,” Kundratitz told GamesBeat. “If a company can deliver that transmedia experience, we are probably one of the few that have the ambition and ability to deliver that.”
While THQ had its roots set firmly in the videogame industry, Koch Media’s movie business experience could prove to bring some fruitful videogame movie adaptations. With that being said, Lionsgate has had the film rights for Deep Silver’s Dead Island series since 2011, and we have yet to see anything come out of that.
