For those looking forward to the future of mobile platforms, the concept of the Ouya is pretty fantastic: an open access gaming platform at a low price point. And now it seems that the production of the devices is on schedule, as Ouya announced yesterday that its dev consoles will be shipping out as scheduled on Dec. 28.
Every Ouya console has the software capabilities necessary for homebrew development, but these first consoles will somehow differentiate themselves from games developed on other consoles. The developer tools for the platform are Android-powered and those dev kits give exclusive access to the console’s custom designed Jelly Bean interface.
Look forward to a flood of independent games coming soon to a living room near you.
