I think that my mind is literally going to burst at the seams with all the Star Wars business going on right now. To top off news of Star Wars-themed Angry Birds and MMOs and new bloody movies, now I hear that Obsidian is pitching a new RPG set in between Episode III and IV.
In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart explained that the team behind KOTOR and KOTOR 2 has already spoken with LucasArts about exploring the untold stories between the trilogies.
“It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few…. We also latched onto it because it has elements people remember, but not the stories. It can just completely not involve [the movies]. It can tease them, but nothing else.”
My brain feels like the inside of an overcooked Hot Pocket right now.
LucasArts was apparently very keen on the idea, entering talks about the title the day after receiving the pitch. This pitch was pre-Disney but even with the new influence of the company, Urquhart says his team is still pushing to make this game a reality. Hopefully with the ever approaching unveiling of a new console generation, Disney will find itself in a position to produce a triple-A title from a well-established development team, and we will be graced with this game’s presence in the near future.
I’m going to be following this story as it develops over the coming months as closely as I can. But then again, my brain’s the Hot Pocket and if I bite into this too soon, I won’t be able to taste anything for a week.
