“No plans” for Diablo III Battle.net/PSN cross-platform support

One of the bigger software-related surprises to come out of last week’s Sony PS4 press conference was no doubt the newly-formed partnership with Blizzard, who will be bringing Diablo III to the PS3 and PS4.

With a titan like Diablo finally erupting onto consoles, many no doubt wondered about the potential of cross-platform play between PSN and PC users over Battle.net. A Blizzard rep on the official Battle.net forums addressed this question, but you’re not going to like it:

“While we think cross-platform play would be awesome, there are currently no plans to allow connectivity between PlayStation Network and Battle.net (this is pretty standard for most games that have PC and console support). As a result, the characters on your Battle.net account and PlayStation account will also remain separate.”

Valve has shown in the past that it was able to get cross-platform between PCs and PS3s working just fine via Portal 2, so this news will no doubt disappoint many Playstation users who were hoping to join forces with their PC brethren.

Alas, it was not meant to be. At the very least, however, those playing on PS3 or PS4 can take solace in offline and online co-op.
