As if we haven’t already been assaulted with a googolplex of trailers with Gamescom, Square Enix has unleashed a new Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD trailer that’s bound to take a lot of us back to those wee days of the PS2.
The trailer’s first half shows fans what they’ve been accustomed to with several battle sequences from the original SD version of Final Fantasy X being shown to the catchy Nobuo Uematsu-composed tune of the “Normal Battle” theme. At the 1:46 minute mark, the video shifts to the HD version, which may wow you with its crisper character textures, cleaner text and widescreen display.
One of the most stand-out features from this point is the remixed music, which features upgraded instrumentation in the form of added guitars, and updated orchestral and keyboard synths. Square Enix Community Manager Lee Williams has stated that 60 tracks from the original FFX soundtrack have been touched up and remastered for the HD release.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about these soundtrack touch-ups and whether the originals will still be available. Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD is still planned for release before the end of the year for PS3 and Vita.
