In an announcement that probably should be a major shock to most considering recent developments, G4TV revealed plans to cancel both X-Play and Attack of the Show earlier today.
According to a post on the channel’s blog, The Feed, the cancellation plan allows for “original episodes through the end of the year” as well as some retrospectives as the two shows get closer to the final curtain. With X-Play having debuted in 2003 and AOTS in 2005, each touting over 1,000 episodes, there’s definitely a whole lot to draw upon.
The cancellations come after parent company NBC Universal said they were looking to rebrand G4 as a channel for the GQ man, instead f your average gamer. This also comes five months after long-time X-Play host Adam Sessler left the company.
Leading up to the cancellations, G4 will be bringing in guest co-hosts on both shows including, “John Barrowman, Michael Ian Black, Josh Myers, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Horatio Sanz,” among others.
I grew up with X-Play. I was around when TechTV became G4 TechTV. I remember when Morgan Webb became the co-host of X-Play. So to see both this show and Attack of the Show leaving television is…not really all that pleasant.
