Feb. 2013 Nintendo Direct Blowout: The Year of Luigi

The latest Nintendo Direct has just finished streaming, and it brought along with it a ton of new 3DS info with it.

First off, the release of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on Mar. 24 is set to kick off “The Year of Luigi” for Nintendo. Expect a ton of new Mario and Luigi-themed news.

One of the more interesting reveals was a Wii-to-3DS remake of Donkey Kong Country Returns. Can’t say I saw that one coming.

If you were too busy being a lovebird on Valentine’s Day, fret not, as we’ve amassed a rundown of all of the most notable things to come out of the stream, including reveals for new entries in Mario & Luigi, Mario Golf, Mario and Donkey Kong, and about a dozen more.   • Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon’s release on Mar. 24 will kick off the “Year of Luigi.” The game will include 4-player multiplayer (offline and online) modes in which players work together to defeat ghosts floor-by-floor.
  • Bowser’s Inside Story sequel Mario & Luigi Dream Team for 3DS is coming Summer 2013. It’s the first fully 3D Mario & Luigi title and involves touching Luigi’s face on the touchscreen to solve puzzles.
  • New Mario Golf World Tour for 3DS this summer as well.
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening free downloadable map promo ends Mar. 6. “Challenge Pack” coming on the same day. More DLC available today.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf coming June 9 for 3DS. “No more doing chores for Tom Nook.” The player is the boss of the village. StreetPass functionality lets you share your town with other users.
  • StyleSavvy Trendsetters to get new Animal Crossing-influenced fashions.
  • 3DS version of Lego City Undercover subtitled The Chase Begins launches Apr. 21.
  • HarmoKnight is an upcoming Game Freak-developed 3DS eShop title that mixes on-rails platforming with rhythm gameplay. Bonus Pokemon level included. A demo will be available Mar. 14, with the full game coming Mar. 28.
  • Kersploosh has you play as a stone that falls down a well. Coming Mar. 7.
  • Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move is an eShop title that features various puzzles and minigames.
  • Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger is a new sequel to last year’s eShop title that will roll on Apr. 11.
  • Harvest Moon and Legend of the River King for Game Boy Color coming to the 3DS Virtual Console in the coming months.
  • You can get a free 3DS game between Mar. 21 and April 20 if you register a 3DS XL and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on Club Nintendo.
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 3DS demo coming soon.
  • A remake of Donkey Kong Country Returns coming to 3DS this year, with a trailer available on the eShop today.

Wii U

  •  New Super Mario Bros. U DLC called “New Super Luigi U” that adds over 80 new levels and stars Luigi coming to the eShop this year.
  • Open Wii U Miiverse community is now up for The Legend of Zelda that allows free discussion of the series and upcoming games.
  • Lego City Undercover has gone gold, coming Mar. 18.
  • Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge getting new costume and characters in a free update.
  • Google-powered panorama app Wii Street U available for free now on the eShop.
  • Wii U ZombiU Deluxe Set coming to North America on Feb. 17 for $389.99.
  • Walking Dead: Survival Instinct coming Mar. 26 on Wii U.
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us coming to Wii U on Apr. 16.
