Disney shuts down Junction Point studios

Junction Point studios, which brought us the Epic Mickey games, will be closing up shop for good at Disney’s behest. The studio, led by Deus Ex creator Warren Spector, was struggling to make ends meet after the release of Epic Mickey 2.

A Disney spokesperson had the following to say regarding Disney’s choice to shut down the studio.

It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.

All that’s left is to see what exactly Disney has in mind when dealing with these “fast-evolving gaming platforms.” Disney has the Star Wars franchise, as well as the recently announced Disney Infinity venture, a Skylanders-esque idea brimming with possibility– and an instant revenue stream.
