Creators of Myst launch new project on Kickstarter

Cyan Inc., best known for their PC adventures games Myst and its sequel Riven, are taking their idea for a new game titled Obduction to Kickstarter.

Rand Miller, the co-founder of Cyan, has stated that Obduction will be the spiritual successor to Myst rather than directly related. Like their previous games, Obduction‘s gameplay will be largely focused on exploration. Players will find themselves abducted to a strange new world where exploring is their only tool for answers.

In their Kickstarter video, Miller explains how it is sometimes difficult to pitch unorthodox games to executives. Thanks to Kickstarter and other crowd-funded related sites, passion projects such as Obduction might stand a chance.

Cyan Inc. is looking to raise a total of $1,100,000 in order to create the game. In three days, however, they’ve already accumulated nearly 8,000 backers and raised over $400,000. Being that Myst and Riven are two of the highest selling PC games of all time, Cyan shouldn’t be too short on contributors.
