[BREAKING] Zynga lays off over 100 employees

[UPDATE] Reports are now independently confirming the closing of Zynga’s Boston office and the layoff of nearly two-thirds of the employees in their Austin location. Sources: Gamasutra | TechCrunch

Update #2: Marc Pincus in an internal note has stated that approximately 5 percent of the Zynga workforce has been laid off, which includes the shutdown of the Boston office and the two thirds of the Austin employees. They are also considering closing their offices abroad in UK and Japan. On the gaming side. they are stopping production on nearly 13 games and decreasing work on The Ville. More details will be provided in tomorrow’s quarterly earnings webcast, according to Pincus.

Zynga may have laid off over 100-plus employees today during the live streamed Apple event today. Twitter reports from all over say that the entire Boston office has been shut down, affecting the current IP The Ville, as well as an unannounced IP. Zynga’s Austin office may also have been shut down, according to first-hand confirmation from Gamasutra.

No official word yet from Zynga regarding these reports, but the news has spread quickly – given the questionable nature of their IPO and pending copyright infringement lawsuits regarding CityVille.

We have reached out to Zynga to get confirmation, but as of now we have not received a response. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
