Blizzard once tested out a version of Diablo in space

The Diablo series is well known for its hellish dark fantasy setting. However, what if Blizzard took that dark setting and placed it somewhere even darker – like in space?

In a recent interview, David Craddock revealed that Blizzard had at one time experimented with multiple prototypes of such a game.

“After D2, the company split into separate teams: a Diablo team, and a ‘We love Diablo but it’s time to try something new’ team. They started and scrapped more than half a dozen ideas before a few team members suggested making a Diablo clone, but set on a space opera stage.”

Craddock went on to talk about how the game, nicknamed Starblo, would include customizable spaceships, various planets to visit and multiple types of space creatures to kill and loot from. They even reached the point where they had a few playable builds completed, but sadly, it was never completed.

What do you think? Would you have been interested in playing Diablo in space?
