God games are few and far between, with Peter Molyneux’s upcoming Project GODUS being one of the latest in the genre. However, it seems like some competition has sprung up and is going to compete against the “god” of the god games.
Abbey Games, a small independent videogame developer from the Netherlands, is developing Reus, a game where you play on a two dimensional planet as a giant with the powers to terramorph terrain, create civilization and control the weather among other giant god-like powers.
As in other god games, your civilization live their life on their own. As a giant stone, wood or crab god, your job is to stay in the back and keep everything running well or face the risk of them turning against you.
“It’s your responsibility to maintain a balance in which man is not overpowered by nature, and nature does not fall to man’s greed.”
